Chain Slavery

1 Minute 34 Second Read  | Author: Jeff Briner

Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”  – Genesis 1:26-28 NKJV

Did you notice all that God has given dominion over to man? Do you also see what was not on the list for man to take command? So, if you said God has not given man power over one another, you are correct.

We have dominion over everything the flies in the air, swims in the water, and crawls on the land. We do not have superiority over another person made in the image of God, male or female.

God has indeed given us societies in which we agree with what is acceptable in the community and the consequences for breaking those agreements. Sometimes that may even mean separation, such as societal privileges revoked and imprisonment. This isn’t an act of slavery but consequences for the person who loves himself more than his neighbor.

We are to set people free not take ownership of people as in property for self-serving purposes. We will cover what slavery is and what is not. And the types of slavery today in messages that will soon follow.

God has always wanted us to come to Him as individuals and communities to fulfill our needs. But instead, much of mankind reaches for the phone and neglects the throne. God never intended for one man to be a subject of another’s man’s kingdom. In the next few days, we will learn how slavery entered the human race through sin and affected us all. We will see where five types of slavery came into being: misogyny, brothers enslaving brothers, government enslaving its citizens, religion enslaving parishioners, and the worse type of all slavery—sin.
